About Elmwood Park
Elmwood Park is located in Cook County, Illinois, about 2 miles NW of Oak Park, Illinois (center to center) and 9 miles NW of Chicago, Illinois. The people of the village are in the Chicago metropolitan area. The Native Americans once inhabited the present-day village of Elmwood Park. At that time, the area was known as Orison. During the 1840s, Elmwood Park was first settled in by the whites. The Chicago and Pacific Railroad ran through the village around 1870. The Village of Elmwood Park was incorporated in 1914 and Merritt Marwood became the first mayor. In 1953, Elmer Conti was elected as the first village president of Elmwood Park.
